Riding the Emotional Roller Coaster of Teaching

Posted on

During Teacher Appreciation Week (#ThankATeacher), we’re highlighting teachers and the great work they are doing both with students and their community. Engaging with students and playing a large role in developing them into the members of society they become makes teaching a noble profession to many. But at the same time, the stress and difficulties can be frustrating.

For Tracy Nuss, a science teacher at North Fayette High School in West Union, IA, the ups of teaching for outweigh the downs. He reflects on how teaching is like a roller coaster in today’s appreciation:

Teaching to me is like riding a roller coaster for the first time. With all of its unexpected turns and thrills, it runs you through every emotion you can think of. Then, when the ride stops, the thrill outweighs the apprehension and your first thought is ‘Let’s get back in line and do it again!’
